Subject: Lunch & Learn Series β€” Introduction to Process Maps

Following recent observations regarding Department process maps, the Office of Onboarding and the Office of Productivity & Purpose have completed a review of current staff enquiries.

Findings indicate that interest levels have exceeded initial expectations.

Since the appearance of several process maps within the Department, staff have submitted an increasing number of questions, including:

  • What is a process map?
  • Why do they appear to make complex things easier to understand?
  • Can emotional wellbeing have a process?
  • Why are there so many arrows?
  • Can I make one for my own activities?

The Offices acknowledge that these are reasonable questions.

In response to sustained interest, a joint Lunch & Learn series has been approved.

The series will consist of four sessions:

Session 1
Introduction to Process Maps

Session 2
Understanding Decisions, Pathways and Loops

Session 3
Mapping Everyday Department Activities

Session 4
Consistency as a Process

Participation is voluntary.

The Offices note that several staff have already expressed enthusiasm regarding Session 4 despite having no formal understanding of process mapping at this time.

This behaviour has been recorded for future analysis.

The objective of the series is not to create process mapping experts.

Rather, it is to explore whether visualising repeated activities helps staff better understand how progress occurs over time.

Initial observations suggest this may be the case.

Several employees have reported that process maps feel:

  • clearer than expected
  • less complicated than anticipated
  • strangely calming

The Offices consider the third observation particularly interesting.

Further investigation will be conducted.

Additional details regarding dates and registration will be distributed shortly.

Staff are advised that curiosity regarding boxes and arrows is considered normal under current operating conditions.
