📝 Director’s Memo: Reflections from Me Time

Colleagues,

During my absence, the Department remained in excellent hands. I have returned to find everything in order — reports filed, voices heard, preparations well underway for the monthly meeting. It seems the Offices are not only diligent but remarkably well organised. I am grateful, and quietly proud.

As for myself, Me Time was no idle sabbatical. I am pleased to report:

  • My foot has finally recovered. The podiatrist, puzzled at its stubbornness, remarked that it should have healed sooner — but late progress is still progress. I am walking freely again.
  • I have been rebounding daily, strength training twice a week, and walking 10,000 steps in the park on most days. My body is well rested, with naps taken exactly when needed. If rumours are true, I am looking radiant.
  • I cooked often. Nutritious meals kept my family nourished and happy. They quietly hope I can maintain this balance, and not return to stress.
  • I restocked our supply of organic dark chocolate. It has proven, without doubt, to be a morale booster of the highest order.
  • I dedicated time to my Chinese studies. In particular, I reflected on the character 静 (jìng) — stillness, quietude. Not simply the absence of noise, but the presence of calm. 静 is what remains when rushing falls away. 静 is the pause in which clarity arrives. I wish to carry this 静 into the Department: stillness as strength.

I also wish to acknowledge the interviews conducted by OCI. I have read every transcript. The words from each Office — and even the whispers from corridors — were deeply touching. To feel so seen, and so loved, is a rare gift. Know that your reflections accompany me as I return to lead with renewed steadiness.

Let the record show: recovery takes time, rest is fuel, chocolate is strategy, and 静 is power.

And above all — self-love is the courage to become your highest, truest self, in this one precious lifetime. ✨ A reminder for today, and always.

Warmly,
The Director
“Refreshed, radiant, and ready.”
