Subject: Case Study – Preliminary Findings on Chicken Broth
The Office of Nourishment & Energy has undertaken two controlled experiments in pursuit of the perfect weekly chicken broth.
Methodology
Each pot of broth was simmered for 4 hours on a gentle stove heat, cooled, refrigerated overnight, and observed the following day.
Experiment #1: Organic Frames
- 4 organic chicken frames
- 1 bunch of celery, 5 carrots, 3 medium red onions, 1 piece ginger (approx 6 cm long)
- A splash of organic apple cider vinegar
- Pinch of iodised sea salt
Outcome: Clear broth, but no gelatin set after refrigeration. Collagen content lower than anticipated.
Experiment #2: Free-Range Drumsticks
- 2 packs of free-range chicken drumsticks
- 1 bunch of celery, 5 carrots, 3 medium red onions, 1 piece ginger (approx 6 cm long)
- A splash of organic apple cider vinegar
- Pinch of iodised sea salt
Outcome: After refrigeration, broth set into a gel-like consistency. Collagen content visibly higher. Household satisfaction increased.
Key Questions Raised
- Do bones alone (frames) provide more minerals, while joints (drumsticks, feet, wings) provide more collagen?
- Is collagen more important than minerals, or are both essential in balance?
- How do farming practices (organic vs free-range) influence the nutrient profile?
- Would longer cooking times alter the balance of collagen vs mineral extraction?
Preliminary Conclusion
Not all broths are created equal. Collagen matters for structure; minerals matter for balance. The search continues for the broth that provides both in abundance.

💡 Closing Anchor Line
Self love is not always grand gestures — sometimes, it’s standing over a simmering pot, experimenting with what nourishes you and your family. The broth may not always set, the answers may not always be clear, but the care itself is what sustains us.
