Subject: Mid-journey, still asking good questions
It’s been just under a month since I filed the first memo from this little desk drawer in the Department of Self Love – and today feels like a good moment to pause and review the case so far.
What are we really talking about when we talk about self love?
I used to think it would come with a clear checklist: journaling, face masks, daily affirmations. But what I’m learning is that self love, in practice, often looks remarkably… ordinary. It’s not always curated or Instagrammable. It’s quiet, administrative even. It shows up in the operational corners of our lives:
– A laundry basket, folded before it becomes a mountain.
– A skipped walk, because the foot needs rest more than the routine.
– A nourishing breakfast made with care, followed by a deliberate fast to give the body space to recalibrate.
Self love isn’t about indulgence – it’s about integrity. It’s doing what is right and kind for yourself, even when it’s invisible to everyone else. It’s maintenance work. Boring sometimes. Brave, often.
And it’s not always comfortable. Slowing down can feel like underperformance when you’re used to working at full speed. Choosing to care for yourself in moments that offer no applause takes emotional fluency – and practice. A lot of practice.
But perhaps most importantly, self love isn’t a destination – it’s a conversation. Ongoing. Shifting. Personal. Less “Who am I supposed to be?” and more “What do I actually need right now?” and “How can I meet that need with grace, not guilt?”
If you’re here, reading this and still figuring it out – same here. This isn’t a handbook. It’s a living document. A shared field manual in progress.
Calmly yours,
Director of Self Love
(Still asking good questions)
P.S. HR would like to clarify: Self Love is not KPI-driven or under review. It’s a permanent role with flexible hours, emotional hazard pay, and a generous chocolate cake allowance. Snack breaks are strongly encouraged, especially during strategic reflection.
